Tim Tebow the Timeshare Salesman

I don’t even feel bad when I criticize Tim Tebow anymore… My criticism is still middle-ground, as he doesn’t strike me as anything less than genuine in what he believes, if only a bit misguided in how to apply it.
No more is this oddly against-itself assessment shown than in this link. I will discuss both sides.

If anything, my opinion of the kid is back-and-forth at best. On one hand, he does the thing where he finds and plays ambassador to people at EVERY game, and that is a great thing, some real shit to people he has no obligation to do ANYTHING for and I respect that. On the other hand, he has legions of fans who hold him and his ON field accomplishments as a professional player in a MUCH higher regards than necessary or earned simply because of his dealings OFF the field.

I guess I happen to belong to a set of opinions that would like for religion and sports – just like politics – to exist in VERY separate lanes.

One other thing in that link that irks me is this part…
When asked if his faith and extracurricular (to his occupation) activities were a distraction, his response was:

"Just the opposite, it's by far the best thing I do to get myself ready. Here you are, about to play a game that the world says is the most important thing in the world. Win and they praise you. Lose and they crush you. And here I have a chance to talk to the coolest, most courageous people. It puts it all into perspective. The game doesn't really matter. I mean, I'll give 100 percent of my heart to win it, but in the end, the thing I most want to do is not win championships or make a lot of money, it's to invest in people's lives, to make a difference."

What eats at me worst is the bolded part there.

You know how when you go to the beach and you’re on the strip of the shops and such, the guy approaches you to ask how long you'll be in town and promises you 2 nights at an amazing resort and blahblahblahblah… all for free and when you get there, you’re told that you MUST attend three 1-hour sessions in which they will try to fast-talk you into buying a timeshare? THAT is Tim Tebow’s career, except “vacation” is “watching football” and “time share” is “come to Jesus.”

It very much reminds me of a good friend of mine going to a Super Bowl party in 1995 with some other teenagers, in which upon arrival but before the game, they were bait-and-switched and preached at before and throughout the game.
I have no issue with belief in what one believes, but I have every issue in the UNIVERSE with zealotry on the level that you’re willing to MAKE people hear what you believe even if they are a captive audience to it and still consider that a good thing. If you've made your life's mission to witness your faith to other, please allow them at least the right to indifference, lest you create active opposition to your message, which is counterproductive to the message itself. It is the same thing that “Conservatives” have done with politics for the past few years. The aforementioned good friend, in spite of the fact that neither of us uses the word in any seriousness, called me a “hater” for being out front enough to allow this assessment of Tim Tebow (human) to allow me to remind everyone that Tim Tebow (NFL Quarterback) is not as good at his profession as he is given credit for being. At the moment that we discussed the link that led this post and I was demanded to make a blog of it, he agreed that I was at least mostly right all along.
