(24) Shyne's newfound freedom(?)

Pre-emptive shout to the Homie Tony Grand$ ... If you clicked and read that link, you saw the post that has me typing this right now. If you did not, at least do me the favor of listening to the song in this link before continuing, please? Moses Leviy Jamal Barrow is missing the entire point of his path to the redemption of his career right now... We all know the rumors of Puff Daddy , um P. Diddy , err... Diddy , uhh Ciroc Obama , you know what? Fuck this... Sean Combs' history of completely coining his artists, ALL of them -- even Biggie -- for either their royalties, or straightup cash. This means, in my mind of minds, that he would have no reason NOT to be guilty of the rumored witness tampering around the time that Shyne was out to trial for causing Diddy and J-Lo to break up shooting up that club. When my money is long, I have the capital to approach this from one of three ways... I call potential witnesses and pay them to shut the fuck up. I call potential witnesses and p

(23) How to win an argument

Being a well-documented asshole both in real life and on the internets, I can honestly say that I have been in many a debate, some that one might even classify as "arguments," so it stands to reason that I know how to end one. [ Phlip note - operative word "end," remember that] I guess one might say that I am clearly adept at pissing people off. The trick, here, is not to be necessarily equipped with proper information, but to get the other side to shut the hell up while you're still willing to discuss your position. Victory by forfeit, if you will. I cannot lay total claim to all techniques that will be discussed in this presentation. In fact, I will not even divulge what it was that was on my television that led to my even writing this right now. ***Deflection*** "What about me? Sheeit, what about YOU?!!?" Right, as soon as a valid point has been made to counter a weaker one of your own, the first thing you should do is shift the focus onto somethin

(22) Teabaggin'

Image
You know what? Rarely does it happen where we can take one word, apply different meanings, and end up to the same ends. The topic of today's discussion is teabagging, both of the accepted definitions of it, and why they BOTH serve to it that you should be surgically careful when vetting potential white friends. Not to tell you any more than you need to know about me, but I am a bit of a drinker. That being said, I have, since age 19, been intoxicated in an utter deluge of situations, with people from all races and walks of life. That understood, though, I was always MOST wary of becoming fallout drunk in the presence of white people, especially in groups. The reason for this is a phenomenon known as teabagging. Google that if you don't know what that is, but I warn to use the urbandictionary result and DO NOT do an image search if you don't want the filters at your job to go apreshit. With that in mind, there was always an underlying reason to avoid having white friends if

(*) Like the sands of the hourglass...

... these are the days of our (after)lives. When we left you , Keith Elam's body was probably not yet cold and surely had not been sent to embalming, before an eerie letter that felt VERY MUCH like a there was some shenanigans among us. We have a deceased legend who had been in a coma for about 8-9 weeks or so who died of an ailment that no one seems to have known he had. Furthermore, someone that no one in the hip hop world knows has been holding information and physical access to the man hostage for all this time, taking monopoly over "official information" as well. Seem weird? Hell yes, it does! As I stated yesterday, and as found in and hinted at in the comments, this is slated to get weirder as well... Well, now it seems that people who used to be close to Guru before this Solar character crowbarred his way in are Tweeting about the situation. Needless to say, Ice-T, Freddie Foxxx and Busta Rhymes are nonplussed by this shit, and I can't blame them. Personally,

(21) Samuel L Jackson for president

What with a health care "reform" that I am not sure I can all the way be on board for or even benefit from, based upon my understanding of it and the lack of tangible change otherwise to the noticeable good of the whole of the American public. Things being as they are, barring some major changes, I am not all the way sure I will want to vote for Barack Obama in 2012... I thought about this long and hard. His being black(ish) had less to do with it to me than it did to others -- whether they admit it or not -- compared to him being the lesser of evils at the time when I went in to vote back in October 2008. One MIGHT think that the GOP, given a clear and concise view of what the voting public is and isn't fucking fed up with, would be foolish to drop the ball again and in such, will not be coming with another weak-ass candidate or a vice candidate who will damn the whole campaign. That would ONLY be if someone involved is smart enough to learn from mistakes -- or epic phai

(*) R.I.P. Guru of Gang Starr

Man, it pains me to have to break into this month's coverage with this one... To those of you without internet (a rather ironic possibility if you're reading this), rapper Keith Elam -- professionally known as Guru of pioneering hip hop group Gangstarr -- passed away last night , following what we're now being told was a year-long battle with cancer but we KNOW has been an off/on coma after February 28th's cardiac arrest episode. It has been said that before being called home last night that he wrote a final letter to fans -- purportedly from his deathbed (more on that in a minute. The letter, as consistently presented on hip hop outlets in my RSS feeds, reads... I, Guru, am writing this letter to my fans, friends and loved ones around the world. I have had a long battle with cancer and have succumbed to the disease. I have suffered with this illness for over a year. I have exhausted all medical options. I have a non-profit organization called Each One Counts d

(20) Legalize it...

Image
How cliche that I make a post like this on this particular day? If I was the type who care about what people thought of or said about me, I might not have the 200something posts in this blog now would I? That much being said, I am going to be the non-smoker devil's advocate and lend the some argument to the legalization of the reefers. As per usual, when I offer things as such, I will offer up MANY links to support what is being said as it is said here. I am no angel, so I cannot claim total innocence, here. I tried it at 15, experimented here and there until about 17 or 18, touched it once since then, at age 23, and will not judge a dude if he decides to smoke something when the hell he sees fit. Not that I am into my blog being accessible by my supervisor, but I would pass a random piss test without flinching, so I have no qualms with writing a blog such as this one. Now, let's get down to it... I have always been of the opinion that the facts about reefers have been skewed i

(19) "Is it snitching?"... a conversation

Y'all know how these ... a conversation blogs go... I present a question to people in person or on the Book of Face (/callmephlip, like everything else on the interwebs if you're not already connected), collect answers and then throw the results up in the form of a blog. This one came from the mind of The Katie, though. I was cooking last night (04/09/2010, as of when I type this), and she suggested a question, which I will present now, modified for blogification. "Let's say that you have a good friend, or are good friends with a couple, and one of them cheats on the other, do you say anything, and if so how?" Yeah, this one will be good... Kicking the idea around today, I asked during an IM convo with La'Donicca , who does not like her Rap Name, and her response was... " That's a toughie and I'd consider going about it in a couple of ways: I'd pull the cheater aside and say most respectfully, though probably undeserved,

(18) What have we learned?

It seems to me that music -- popular or otherwise -- is the only medium in which people neglect to learn from those that came before them in making better product. That, or or they just refuse. Seriously, look at sports, even the ones you don't watch... Football players are bigger and faster and throwing the ball farther, baseballs are being pitched faster and hit further, basketball players are bigger, stronger and jumping higher, race cars are faster and safer in getting there, as well as same linear advancements in every other sport I did not care to mention. We COULD blame performance enhancing drugs, but that takes away too much credit from the athletes who are not cheats, which I truly do believe is the most of them. Anyway, we look at most professions in the world whose lives are made better by the knowledge imparted on them from the experiences of those who came before them and I am beginning to think that people making music these days are fucking stupid. Here we are, 4+ m

(17) Classic German Automotive Pr0ns -- Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR

Image
The Mercedes-Benz 300SLR was a car designed and built for racing, not related to the classically popular and similarly named gullwinged 300SL, only coincidence that it was actually based upon the 1954-55 Formula 1 offering, which happened to have a fucking boring name. Technological advances that are in use even to this day, 56 years later are employed - super lightweight materials, front-midship (square with or behind front axles), independent rear suspension and plenty more. Championed by the legendary Stirling Moss, his #722 is THE one(s) most easily associated with this car, and I am sure that every one ever made was painted silver, lol. Racing history was marred by a few crashes of them at the hands of other drivers due to poor brake design. One killed a driver and several spectators when the drum brakes were inefficient and a fire ensued. Noteworthy is that the lightweight metal of choice was magnesium. One "fun" burn characteristic of a magnesium is that when you have
