42 - Completion

Sometime earlier on in this year -- I THINK it was around February or March or so -- I began to get things for The Buddy to reward him for good days in school, and in such made a bit of a monster in myself.
I noticed that Mattel releases the 1/64 hotwheels collections in sets, and that this year's "New Models" collection would include 42 of them. At that point, I made it a GOAL that I would have all 42 of them. As some of you may recall, during that maelstrom of posts from August, I explained which I had to that point, complete with pictures.

Well, since Wal Mart is such the evil empire that they have good prices and abundant availability, compared to regular grocery stores, I have been able to swing by during my normal trips and pick up the few that I did not yet have at that time.
On my way to work this morning, I found myself on pace to arrive to work damn near 35 minutes early this morning, and even though I needed to send a fax before getting down to it, I stopped in Wal Mart to see if they had that last one for me...
Alas, I was NOT in luck this morning in particular, BUT it seemed that someone was planning for a shipment of some sort, as all of the "collections" were properly blocked and arranged on the hooks, actually with like-for-like models TOGETHER (one peg containing several of the same particular car) for a change. In this presentation, SEVERAL pegs were empty, which filled me with the feeling that maybe, just maybe, I would be able to hit paydirt at some point during today. I would make a point of swinging by on lunch today, since I am now back to an hour for lunch. Hell, while I am at it, I will stop by KMart as well, since it is about 3 minutes in on the 5 it would take me to get to Wal Mart from work.

Damn, I think about a lot of shit in short periods of time.

Back to the task at hand...
Lunch rolls around and I hop in the car and head over, stopping at KMart first.
Jackpot.

This brings me to that point in this story where I show you 42 images of hotwheels cars. As I stated, I am only going in on the "2009 New Models Collection," and not branching to any of the other series that came out around it.

At the end of this all, sometime in the not too distant future, I will be mounting these guys up to a piece of board for display somewhere around, I will incorporate that into a blog whenever I get around to it.
So here I am now, and already I am noticing in the stores that the 2010 New Models collection is 44 cars deep and I am getting that little itch I happen to begin to feel at the onset of one of my new obsessions/undertakings.
Fuck my life.

Speaking of obsessions, what ever happened to the army of Rubber Ducks you amassed a while back?
